Postgraduates

1. Training objectives

The main objectives of master degree students in Control Engineering is to develop highly skilled professionals who can contribute to the economic development of the nation and meet the demands of the industry for automation engineering talent. The program aims to provide students with a well-rounded development of moral, intellectual, and physical abilities. The specific objectives are:

1. Master the basic theory of Marxism, adhere to the basic line of the party, love the motherland, obey the law, have good moral character and professionalism, have a scientific and rigorous and pragmatic learning attitude and work style, and be healthy in body and mind.

2. Master the basic theory in the field of control engineering and the advanced technical methods and modern technical means for solving engineering problems, and have the ability to independently engage in engineering design and operation, analysis and integration, research and development, management maintenance and decision-making, etc. in a certain direction in this field Competent for work in the field of actual control engineering.

3. Master a foreign language, be able to read foreign language materials in the subject area proficiently, and have certain foreign language writing and communication skills.

2. Study period

The flexible academic system is adopted for the training of postgraduates with professional degrees. The study period for full-time postgraduates with professional degrees is generally two years, and the study period for on-the-job postgraduates with professional degrees is generally three years. Postgraduates should complete the courses and dissertations required by the training program within the prescribed number of years, complete the credits, and graduate on schedule. If necessary, graduate students may apply for an extension of their study period, subject to the approval of the supervisor and the school, and with the consent of the Graduate School (preparation). However, the maximum duration of the study period shall not exceed five years.

3. Training methods

1. Adopt a training method combining course study, practical teaching and dissertation.

2. Curriculum setting embodies solid basic theory, emphasizing practical application, and cutting-edge knowledge, focusing on professional practice courses and engineering practice courses. The credit system is implemented for course study, and the total credits should be obtained not less than 32 credits, of which the degree courses are not less than 18 credits.

3. Practical teaching is the main link in the professional degree master training. Encourage graduate students to practice in enterprises, which can be combined with concentrated practice and segmented practice. Practical teaching includes professional technical practice courses and practical links (engineering practice).

4. A comprehensive assessment will be conducted after the courses and practical studies are completed. The comprehensive assessment shall be carried out in accordance with the "Comprehensive Assessment Measures for Professional Degree Master Graduates of Shenzhen University". Only after passing the comprehensive assessment can the applicant enter the degree application stage.

5. Implement a double-tutor system, one of which is a postgraduate tutor with engineering practice experience in the school, and the other is a senior technical title recommended by the unit from an industrial and mining enterprise or engineering department with a high level of professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility expert. It is also possible to set up a steering group for training according to the research direction of the graduate student's thesis.

6. Those who need to make up courses in other fields or according to other regulations shall be determined by the tutor when formulating the personal training plan, and will be included in the assessment results, but not the credits.

4. Professional practice (engineering practice)

Each research direction shall set up an engineering practice link according to the characteristics of the direction and the subject. The practice period should be at least 6 months in principle. The aim of engineering practice is to develop graduate students' ability to solve practical problems. The approach to engineering internships encourages diversity, allowing for a range of experiences that can enrich students' knowledge and skills.

1. Organization and arrangement of engineering practice

1) Full-time postgraduates with a professional master’s degree should formulate an engineering internship plan with their supervisors before the end of the second semester , and enter the engineering internship stage in the third semester. Engineering practice can take the form of full-time practice or a combination of course study and engineering practice.

2) Engineering practice method

( 1) The on-campus tutors will arrange the engineering practice sessions for the students in combination with  their applied scientific research topics.

( 2) The off-campus tutors will play a guiding role, utilizing on-site talent training resources, and arranging corresponding engineering practice sessions.

( 3) The graduate student will contact the on-site engineering practice unit  according to their employment.

( 4) The school will organize and select students to carry out engineering practice on-site, relying on postgraduate joint training bases, practical teaching bases, or industry-university-research partners established by the school and external units.

2. Assessment of engineering practice

1) The tutor implements the whole process of management and quality evaluation of the engineering practice of graduate students to ensure its quality. After completing the engineering practice, students should write an engineering practice report and submit it to the supervisor, along with a corporate practice certificate (including grades). The internship report must be based on the student's own internship experience, and the tutor will grade it. The overall evaluation grade of the engineering internship is composed of 50% of the company's grade and 50% of the tutor's grade.

2) Students who do not participate in the engineering practice or fail the engineering practice assessment are not eligible to apply for graduation or dissertation defense.

5. Personal training plan

In order to ensure the quality of postgraduate training for professional degree masters, the postgraduate guidance group will select instructors for postgraduates in the second week of the first semester through two-way mutual selection between teachers and students. The selection must be approved by the college before reporting to the Graduate School.

Under the guidance of the tutor, the graduate students will formulate a personal training plan before the end of the first month of the first semester according to the requirements of the professional training program. The training plan must follow the general principles of the professional training program while teaching students according to their aptitude, considering the unique needs and goals of each graduate student.
